I heard the shrill ululation and then a boy flew out onto the beach. A whole group of boys followed. They all had painted faces except for the boy in the front who stood there and looked at me and then I spoke,
"Who's the leader here"
The boy quickly answered, "I am."
Another boy stepped out but then quickly returned to his group Cowering behind some of the other boys. I started to talk to the boy in the front again.
"It looks like you boys were having a war or something," I said.
"Yes we were," he replied very seriously.
"No casualties I hope."
"Only two," he replied.
I was stunned. I couldn't visualize British school boys killing each other. They were a bunch of savages. We got them on the boat and I began to talk with the boy in the front of the group whose name I later found out was Ralph. We started to talk and he elaborated on what had happened during his time on the island. Ralph was very helpful on the ship and quickly learned how to sail and was soon heaving anchors and doing other chores on the boat. When we returned to England he went back to his family and wrote me every week.

Blog 14- Blog 10 Revision "No more Fire"

The fire had been such a great thing for us on the island. It gave us a Chance to get away from everybody and talk to each other while we collected wood. Back home we often played by ourselves because we enjoyed each others company more than anyone else's. And since Piggy's glasses had been stolen the fire was gone along with the hope of being rescued and it was all Jacks fault. Now we spent our days leading piggy around and helping him get food which was nowhere near as fun as getting firewood. The trip to castle rock was terrible. Piggy thought he could reason with Jack but all it did was get him killed. Poor Piggy. He had been a great friend and the loss was terrible and now we had to live with the boys who killed two of our best friends. Ralph was a great leader but nobody else thought like him except for us, Piggy and Simon. Ralph would have had a chance in the fight if the rest of the tribe hadn't been there but now we were here getting teased by the others and hating life. We had been forced to join this tribe and Jack was a terrible leader, He didn't even let us collect fire. Our favorite thing to do.

Blog 13- Blog 7 Revision "Hunting the Beat"

We had been walking all day and my feet were tired, but there was no way Jack or Ralph were going to let us stop. Even when we asked for a quick break they were uncompromising. We had now reached the other end of the island where no one had ever been and there we stopped for the first time. I started to think about my time on the island so far and how it had been the first day I arrived. The way we had walked in the two lines with such dignity, now all that was left of that part of my life was a black cap and my memory. I remembered how all of the littluns came out of the forest sniveling and whining about wanting their parents and the little scrapes and bruises that were all over their body. I looked back up at the rock that looked like a castle and saw little coverts all over the place.
"We need to keep going,"said Jack happy to be in charge.
We all got up and head up the pink rock that we had now decided to call castle rock. There were narrow ledges all over the place and we found one that looked like it led up to the top. I followed the rest of the group with jack leading and Ralph right behind them. When we came to the neck you could see out in to the ocean which seemed infinite. We decide to continue on along the ledge up to the top, but when we were to the top we all got a little scared of what might be at the top and decide to try a different route through the forest. When got into the forest we blundered through the first part until we came to a pig run. We walked along that for a while when all of a sudden a boar came flying at us we all jumped into the brush except for Ralph who was deep in thought and didn't even notice the pig until the last second. Then he flung his spear right in to the nose and it stuck there for a second while the pig ran off. Everyone stood there in amazement. Ralph who was not a hunter had just fought off a wild boar. I was starting to think maybe Ralph wasn't so bad after all.
"Did you see that!"He yelled. "I stabbed it right in the nose!"
Everyone ran over to congratulate him and talk to him. I thought it was dumb that they admired him so much, he wasn't even all that great. Then Jack ran over there with a bloody arm saying that he had tried to get the boar and that's what its tusks had done. Now the attention switched to him and then Robert got down on his knees and pretended to be the pig and charged Jack. Jack dodged him and then hit him with the butt of the spear. I tried to get in to the circle, but everyone was blocking me from getting in. It was infuriating that I couldn't get in, this was my one chance to fit in and I couldn't get in to the circle. I finally made my way in to the inner ring and nailed Robert in the back with the butt of my spear and he began to cry. It felt really cool to do that because everyone admired me a little for being tough. It was starting to get dark and everyone was getting scared. Ralph said that we needed to go on any ways and find the beast we made our way to the mountain where the signal fire had been and stopped there for a minute. Ralph said that we should go look for the beast, but everyone was too scared. Then Jack volunteered and I had to volunteer as well to look cool. "We shouldn't go," said Robert sagely. As if he knew something bad was going to happen. After I had volunteered no one else did so we went towards the top of the mountain. On the way up no one said anything, but the whole time I was thinking about how I didn't like the way Ralph led and pretty soon I might start my own tribe only I didn't know if anyone else would join. When we reached the top it took us a while to work up the courage to look over the top and when we finally did we saw an ape like thing sitting up against a rock and then we knew the beast was real. Jack had been right all along and right then and there I thought Jack should be leader not Ralph.

Blog 12- Witness Sheet- Ralph

Trial of Jack Merridew Witness Preparation sheet
Chapter 1: First Ralph meets Piggy. Then they discover the conch to call all the other boys. The conch works and all the boys come to the meeting place. Then they decide to elect a leader and Ralph wins the election. Jack is jealous that he was not chosen to be the leader.. At the end of the chapter Ralph, Jack and Simon head towards the mountain to see if the place is really an island or not.
Chapter 2: The chapter starts with them returning from there exploration. They now know that there are no adults and it is for sure an island. While exploring they find a pig and decide that they need some hunters to get food while they are on the island. Ralph says that Jack and the choir should be the hunters and that Jack could be the leader of them. They also establish that who ever has the conch during meetings gets to talk and everyone else has to listen until that person is done talking and passes the conch on. Then a small boy with a birthmark says that there is a beast on the island and Ralph argues that there isn't one, but jack sees this as an opportunity to take advantage of the little ones and agrees that there is a beast. Then Ralph says that they should start a signal fire and everyone runs up the mountain leaving Ralph and Piggy behind. They begin to run after the rest of the group and when they get to the top Jack takes Piggy's glasses and lights the fire it ignites and quickly grows and lights some of the forest on fire killing the boy with the birthmark.
Chapter 3: The chapter begins with jack hunting in the forest while Simon and Ralph work on building shelters. This already shows Jacks carelessness and his point of view on life on the island. Jack takes the whole thing as a game, where as Ralph takes it very seriously.
Chapter 4: In this chapter Jack becomes obsessed with killing pigs. Because he is so obsessed with killing a pig he takes all of the hunters and leaves no one to watch the fire and it goes out. Right then a ship passes by. Ralph is furious that they were not rescued but jack is happy because he caught a pig.
Chapter 5: In this chapter Ralph calls a meeting to go over the rules again and make sure everyone is loyal. Ralph also addresses the beast and this time Jack agrees that it is not real. Some of the litluns believe that the beast comes from the water.
Chapter 6: This is the chapter where The parachutists plane gets shot down and he lands on the island and Sam n' Eric see it at night and don't know it is the parachutist so they think it is the beast. They go and tell everyone that the beast is up there and the fire goes out because nobody will go up there. At the end of this chapter the boy set out to look for the beast on the island.
Chapter 7: While they are on the way to find the beast they find pig droppings and decide to follow it. Then a wild boar jumps out and Ralph stas it in the nose while everyone else is hiding. He is very excited that he stabbed it and it shows he is a good hunter. This makes Jack jealous and he cuts himself and tells evryone it was the pig to make himself look cool. Then the boys start to act out the pig hunt and robert gets into the middle of the circle and pretends to be the boar. After there game is over it begins to get dark and Ralph suggests that they go on anyways but nobody wants to except for Jack and Roger. They move on to the top of the mountain and see the beast. They are terrified and run back down the hill.
Chapter 8: The next morning they telll all the boys about the beast and explain it as an ape like thing. In this chapter Jack blows the conch to call the meeting and then during the meeting claims that Ralph is a coward. Then Jack asks for the boys to vote Ralph out of power but none of them vote against Ralph and Jack is furious so he leaves the camp and starts his own tribe. At the end of the chapter Simon goes to his glade and finds the lord of the flies sitting there on the stick sharpened at both ends.
Chapter 9: IN this chapter simon wakes up in his glade after talking to the lotf and then goes up the mountain to see if there really is a beast. When he gets to the top he sees the parachutist and he heads back down to tell everyone that there is no beast. When he gets down to where they are feasting on the pig they think that Simon is the beast and they attack him and kill him.
Chapter 10: The next morning Ralph and Piggy discuss what happened last night since they were there and decide that they aren't going to tell Sam n' Eric about there involvment in Simon's death.
Chapter 11: IN this Chapter Ralph's tribe gets raided by Jack and they steal Piggy's glasses so that they can have fire all the time. Piggy goes to reason with them but that idea is quickly ruined when Jack and Ralph get into a fight. Then Roger drops a boulder on Piggy and he dies.
Chapter 12: Ralph hides in the jungle and Jacks tribe tries to find him so that they can kill him. They try many different ways to get him out like rolling boulders at him and trying to smoke him out of his hiding place they manage to catch the island on fire but they still can't catch Ralph at the end of the chapter Ralph stumbles out on to the beach and there is a naval officer standing there. Jacks tribe emerges at almost the same time and they all stop. Then they get on the boat and leave the island.
